Race Week:
Talladega, AL emerged as the top choice among several possible sites in the Southeast, with the main criteria for selection being the availability of land, access to the interstate system, and a population base of at least 20 million people within 300 miles. Anniston insurance executive Bill Ward, a racecar driver and fan himself, helped NASCAR and International Speedway Corporation founder William H.G. (Bill) France find the land in Alabama following a casual conversation with France in Daytona in the mid-1960s.
Football Week:
Two of the key players for Sunday’s game between the Green Bay Packers and Arizona Cardinals will be their polar-opposite safeties, Xavier McKinney and Budda Baker. Few safeties are better playmakers than McKinney, though you might not know it with his one interception in five games. Essentially, opponents’ game plans have been to see where McKinney is lined up and throw the ball somewhere else.
Baseball Week:
This has been a series defined by offensive outbursts. Seattle's five eighth-inning runs, punctuated by a Eugenio Suarez grand slam, made the difference in Game 5 and put the Mariners on the brink of their first World Series. While the Dodgers rest up, awaiting their World Series opponent, the Blue Jays and Mariners are back in action Sunday after a travel day.
Hockey Week:
The Admirals trailed by a goal heading into the third, but dominated in the game’s final period, out shooting Texas 14-5 and scoring three times. L’Heureux tied the game at three at 12:42 of the third when his shot barely trickled past Texas net minder Remi Poirier and over the goal line. The Admirals now head out on their first road trip of the season.
